Abstract

End of the year corporate procurement drove growth of the global server market, trickling into 13.9% year-and-year Taiwanese server volume growth for in the fourth quarter of 2004. However, a chipset shortage resulted in a lower shipment performance than expected. The chipset supply situation is expected to enjoy a certain degree of relief in the first quarter of 2005, helping the shipment volume of both major brands and Taiwanese makers return to normal. A further boost is expected to arise from Intel's release of its new Xeon CPU and price cuts on current offerings.
