Abstract

The notebook PC market sustained its growth from the third quarter into the fourth quarter of 2004 on the back of holiday sales. Taiwanese notebook PC shipments reached 10.4 million units, posting 27.9% growth year-on-year. While growth was encouraged by holiday demand and fierce price competition between brand-name vendors, shortages of key components such as CPUs and chipsets restrained growth to some extent. Sequential growth in volume was therefore more modest at 18.4%. Throughout 2004, Greater Chinese notebook PC volume continued to register growth, benefiting from strong demand in the end market. Shipment volume amounted to 33.4 million units, climbing 32.4% from 2003.
