Abstract

The notebook PC industry sustained its recent recovery in the third quarter of 2004, with market growth continuing at a healthy pace. Benefiting from back-to-school sales and the proliferation of wireless communications technology, Taiwanese notebook PC shipment volume grew by 38.7% year-on-year and 19.4sequentially to reach 8.8 million units in the third quarter. Intel's wave of price cuts on its mobile CPU in October coupled with the traditional holiday peak season is looking to stimulate PC sales and prompt double-digit growth for Taiwanese notebook PC makers in the fourth quarter of 2004 and well into 2005.
