Abstract

With steady support from the corporate market and demand in the consumer market gradually increasing, a mild warming trend swept through the worldwide PC market in the third quarter of 2004. Orders from large brand-name vendors spurred growth in the greater Chinese desktop PC industry, as shipment volume posted year-on-year gains of 15.3%. Although the market adjusted to the release of new platforms in the third quarter, growth in shipment value lagged behind the remarkable growth in shipment volume, as lower-priced barebone shipments were the primary drivers of growth.
