Abstract

Despite the onset of global recession, the Greater Chinese notebook PC industry posted historical highs in production volume in third and fourth quarters of 2001. New low-priced notebook PC models contributed to the strong growth, while second tier manufacturers managed to increase production significantly with the surprise success of desktop solutions. 2001 also marked the rise of Dell, further boosting Greater China's notebook PC production volume. This report will analyze the greater Chinese notebook PC industry's production volume and value, ASP, major international vendors' relations with Greater Chinese OEM/ODMs, product architecture, price segmentation, and desktop solutions, as well as provide a review of the top manufacturers. Finally, MIC will present scenario analyses for 2002.
