Abstract

Due to robust sales performance in Europe and booming demand in emerging markets, the Greater Chinese motherboard industry defied seasonality to register double-digit growth in the first quarter of 2004. First-quarter shipment volume rose 16.7% year on year to approximately 33.6 million units while shipment value maintained its year-on-year 16.8% ascent to about US$2 billion. As motherboards will go through specification transition and price competition will not relent in the second quarter, shipment performance is forecasted to post modest growth.
