Abstract

This research report presents shipment volume and value forecast and recent quarter review of the Taiwanese tablet industry. The report includes shipment volume and value, ASP, and product mix analysis. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with tablet makers. The report finds that the Taiwanese tablet industry's shipment volume reached about 21.6 million units in the third quarter of 2014, up 2.2% sequentially. Apple's iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 were both upgrade versions of previous models and failed to spur sales. The lasting low-price competition will force a growing number of white-box tablet vendors out of business due to financial problems. The vacuum in the market is expected to be filled by branded vendors' low-cost products, which are financially supported by Intel's and Microsoft's subsidies. Therefore, the industry's ASP is expected to decline at a slower pace in 2015.
