Abstract

This report presents forecast and recent quarter review of mobile phone shipment volume, shipment value, and APS, and analyzes manufacturer volume rankings, shipment by maker, and price trends. Also provided are shipment breakdowns by system technology, operating systems, display, embedded Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS, and examines production locations, shipment destinations, and customer portfolios. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with Taiwanese mobile phone makers. The report finds that in anticipation of the launch of Apple's iPhone 5, the shipment volume and value of Taiwanese mobile phone industry - comprising of feature phones and Smartphones and witnessing double-digit sequential declines in the second quarter of 2012 - continued to see declines in the third quarter, although at a modest rate. Nevertheless, the industry's shipment volume and value are expected to have enjoyed over 40% year-on-year and sequential growth in the fourth quarter of 2012. It is anticipated that the industry's growth momentum will continue well into the first quarter of 2013, albeit at a slower rate.
