Abstract

The IEEE 802.11n protocol was finally ratified in October 2009. With the WLAN technology on the verge of maturity, the product and price competition among WLAN brand-name vendors is intensified. In 2009, the revenues of most Taiwanese networking companies declined, with declining rates ranging between 5% and 25%. In 2010, with the proliferation of Wi-Fi applications, individual networking companies have seriously thought about developing new wireless applications so as to seek new market opportunities for their existing products while advancing their positions in the industry. This reports profiles major WLAN module players in the global WLAN industry: Gemtek, Lite-On Technology, CyberTAN, USI and AzureWave, with an aim to provide insight into the future development of the industry based on development strategies taken by these brands.
