Increasing Inventory Levels Leads to Demand for Tablets Slowdown in 3Q 2013: MIC
January 13, 2014

In 2013, the market demand for low- and mid-priced tablets was buoyant, making those tablets the engine of growth in the market. MIC analyst, Nina Ko says “panel makers have been placing high focus on this product segment, adjusting their production strategies to increase shipments of their panels for use in low- and mid-priced tablets”. ‘As the demand for tablets is not significantly boosted, the industry began to see supply outpacing demand in the third quarter of 2013 and inventory began to build up”, noted Nina Ko. In addition, panels for use in Apple's new tablets, though with limited volume, began production in the third quarter of 2013. Meanwhile, in fear of the lackluster demand for tablets, some branded vendors have opted for inventory clearance instead of inventory replenishment. As a result, the pull-in demand for displays used in tablets was held back in the third quarter of 2013.
