Chris Hung, Vice President and Director General of Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC), shared his insights on the digital trends for 2035 in an exclusive interview. He predicts that by then, there will be a world with ubiquitous intelligence and computing. Communication and IT-related technologies will gradually permeate into every sector and aspect of life, from clothing, and food to living, transportation, entertainment, healthcare, and finance. These sectors will leverage advanced information technologies like IoT, 6G, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence (AI) to make ubiquitous intelligence and computing a reality.
He believes that while IoT and AI are currently dispersed in different domains and life scenarios, the future of technological development hinges on deeper integration, making them omnipresent. A crucial aspect of this integration is "data," as cross-platform integration requires a significant amount of data exchange. Platform integration will thus stand as the most significant difference between future technology and the present.
When it comes to the technological development in Taiwan, Hung is optimistic. He asserts that Taiwan has a robust information and communication technology industry, especially leading in hardware technology. The ongoing effort should be directed towards fortifying the software information service industry. While many emerging applications presently come from international conglomerates, but there is still room for development in various vertical application areas. It's not a one-size-fits-all situation where only big ones succeed. Therefore, it is imperative for Taiwanese IT service providers to effectively and strategically integrate with hardware advantages.
He also underscores that the development of digital technology may bring about a "digital divide" impact. Advantaged groups in society may master these digital technologies, while disadvantaged groups may face challenges in their adoption, resulting in an amplified gap between them. Hence, III emphasizes digital inclusivity, striving to ensure that both vulnerable groups and small and medium-sized enterprises can reap the benefits of digital technology.
The Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC), a division of the Institute for Information Industry (III) will host the MIC Forum Fall at Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei (Taiwan) from October 30th to November 2nd. For the first time, MIC will collaborate across different institutes to present six major trend topics: Digital Trend Outlook, Future of the Communication Industry, Value-added Data Governance, Practical Smart Health, IT Trend Prospects, and the Resurgence of Intelligent Manufacturing. This forum will dissect over twenty critical issues spanning various industries from short, medium, and long-term perspectives.
