Global Smartphone and Semiconductor Shipments Look Promising for 2021: MIC
October 20, 2020

Global semiconductor and smartphone shipments are projected to grow 12% while server system and networking communication device shipments to grow at 4% year-on-year in 2021, according to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a government think tank and a leading IT research institute in Taiwan. “The growth factors of global semiconductor shipments include the user-end market demand comeback, and the surging demand for HPC (High Performance Computing) and 5G application services”, said Chris Hung, Deputy Director General at MIC. “MIC also expect the smartphone industry to regain momentum on account of the replacement demand for 5G phones, product optimization of phone brands, and aggressive deployment of mobile processor brands. Meanwhile, the WFH trend and 5G commercialization will drive demand for server and network equipment upgrades and global datacenter deployments, thereby boosting server and network equipment shipments in 2021.”
