Nearly 60% of Taiwan’s Game Players Have Watched Others’ Gameplay through Live Internet Broadcasts: MIC
April 29, 2019

Taipei-based, government-backed research institute MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute) conducted a research on digital game players from October 1 to 5, 2018. The number of effective samples was 1,068 with 95% confidence level and 3% marginal error. “The findings suggest 59.9% Taiwanese game players have been watching others playing games through live internet broadcasts, 69.1% of which were male gamers, higher than female gamers’ 50.5%," says Helen Lin, industry analyst with MIC. "The most popular game-watching platforms among Taiwanese gamers are Youtube (80.5%), Twitch (22.5%), Camerabay (17.9%), LIVEhouse.in (16.6%), and DouYu (14.5)."

"Our findings also revealed that nearly 80% of gamers were aged 24 or younger, 50% of which made purchases during the viewing process. This indicates the younger generation is more accustomed to interacting with peers through images and audio and video creations, making live streamers online celebrities in the gaming sector."
