Market volume of the global mobile PC market, comprising of notebook PC and tablet, reached 325 million units in 2017, down 3.6% compared to 2016. The decline is attributed mainly to the fast decline of tablets, according to Taipei-based and government-backed IT research institute MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute) "For the period 2018-2022, shipment volume of mobile PCs, comprising of notebook PCs and tablets, is expected to slip to 308 million units in 2022, down from 325 million units in 2017," says Sagitta Pan, senior industry analyst with MIC.

"Nevertheless, mobile PC shipments are likely to remain significant, as they are still needed for productivity, education, and entertainment purposes that are yet to be totally replaced by smartphones."
