TDI (Taiwan Display Inc.), a wholly owned subsidiary of JDI (Japan Display Inc.), announced that its proposal to acquire 80% of STC's (Star World Technology Corporation) stake through private placement has been approved by the latter's shareholders' meeting, reported Commercial Times on April 25. TDI provides glass substrates to STC, who is in charge of manufacturing backend LCMs (LCD module) for smartphones and other mobile devices and shipping back to TDI for sales. STC's only production facility locates in Zhuhai, China, with a monthly capacity of 2.5 million pieces of 4-to-9-inch LCMs. The acquisition is still subject to regulatory approval and is expected to take into effect in June the earliest.
