Conductive Glass For Touch Panels Exempt From Commodity Tax As Of March 20
March 21, 2014

Taiwan's Ministry of Finance ruled that, from March 20, 2014, imported and domestically made conductive glass, as long as being certificated by the regulatory authority for the exclusive purpose of making touch panels, is exempt from the 10% commodity tax, reported Taiwan's Commercial Times. Taiwanese major players in the touch panel manufacturing industry, such as Wintek, Applied Vacuum Coating Technologies (AVCT), Gemtech Optoelectronics, and Ritek are expected to benefit from the new rule and will have lower production costs. Currently, conductive glass substrates for IC packaging and making LCD displays and plasma display modules, together with ultra-thin glass for making touch panels and conductive glass for making thin-film solar cells and OLED displays, are tax-exempt.
