LG Display announced that it will begin mass production of flexible OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) panels for smartphones next year, according to the company's press release on October 7. Instead of glass, LG Display's flexible OLED panels are built on plastic substrates that are bendable and unbreakable, making it more suitable for applications such as automotive displays, tablets, and wearable devices. The new display could curve from top to bottom, with 0.44mm thickness. However, details such as the timeframe and the annual capacity of its mass production plan were yet to be disclosed.
