Foxconn Eyes Indonesia for Strong Mobile Phone Orders
October 02, 2013

Foxconn has signed a deal with Indonesian mobile phone distributor Erajaya on contract manufacturing 50 million mobile phones per year – roughly one-fifth of the country's annual market volume, according to Taiwan's United Daily News on October 1. Instead of setting up export-oriented production plans, Foxconn will cooperate with local partners to make mobile phones catering to local consumers while leaving the branding business to its local partners. Foxconn will also help Indonesian government develop ICT industry and restructure local industry, with the establishment of testing facilities and laboratories as part of its investment plan. In addition to Erajaya, Foxconn is also in talks with Polytron, a local TV maker who has set foot in mobile phone business in recent years.
