Samsung Electronics plans to develop its own passive display technology for 3D TVs, according to a September 6, 2011 report by the Korea Herald. Samsung currently adopts the active shutter glass technology for its 3D TVs, and LG applies the FPR (Film-type Patterned Retarder) technology. It is reported that worldwide 3D TV sales are projected to reach 50 million units in 2012, up from 20 million units this year, according to the same source.
