Corning Inaugurates New Tech Center in Neihu, Taiwan

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) glass substrate manufacturer Corning recently announced on June 16 that the company opened a new advanced technology center for US$10 million in Taiwan's Neihu Technology Park, Taiwan's Commercial Times reported on June 16. The new center, claimed to be Corning's first customer-oriented applications and design center outside of its headquarters in New York, is aimed to help its Taiwanese manufacturers tap their customers' fast-changing demand for mobile devices while providing direct assistance in product R&D to help shorten time-to-market. Corning stated that the company is poised to begin mass production of its 0.4mm thin glass substrates. By year-end 2011, Corning is projected to recruit more than 20 engineers and personnel for the new center, according to the same source.
 

Recently, Corning's touch-screen glass substrates have been used in new tablet devices developed by Asus and Acer, its 3D imaging glass substrates have been adopted by Sony for its high-end LCD Ts and its flexible displays, according again to the Commercial Times.
