Samsung to Set up JV for 7.5G Panel Production in China

Samsung announced on April 22, 2011 that the company will invest 541 billion won (US$504.5 million; US$1=1072.4 won) to build a flat-screen production JV in China, according to the Reuters. Situated in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, the new JV is projected to concentrate on 7.5G panel production for Samsung. It is reported that Samsung will hold 50% in the JV, Samsung's Chinese affiliate will own 10%, Suzhou Industrial Park will control 30%, and Chinese TV manufacturer TCL will hold the remaining 10%. Construction of the new JV is expected to begin as early as May 2011, while volume production is scheduled for 2013.

Samsung also said that the company is considering spending US$230 million on purchasing 15% share of CSOT. CSOT is a flat-screen panel company partially owned by TCL.
