April 01, 2011

Taiwanese panel manufacturer Wintek received approval from the Vietnamese government to invest US$250 million in building a touch panel plant in Vietnam, according to a March 26, 2011 report by the Commercial Times of Taiwan. Compare to China, it is reported that labor costs in Vietnam are two-thirds to 60% lower in Vietnam. The new plant is slated for volume production in the second half of 2011. Situated in Bac Giang Province, northern Vietnam, it is estimated that the Vietnam plant will hire 5,000 to 10,000 employees initially and produce 10 million TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) modules per month.
