Toshiba said on March 17, 2011 that an assembly line at a plant near Tokyo will be closed for one month to repair sensitive equipment, according to the Reuters. It is reported that the assembly line is used to manufacture small LCDs (Liquid Crystal Display) for Smartphones and other devices. Hitachi also announced that small LCD production at a plant near Tokyo will be halted for one month, according to the same source. It is projected that Hitachi closes the plant in order to deal with damage and power outages caused by the earthquake.
