TSMC to Build New 12-inch Wafer Fab in Central Taiwan Science Park

plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony on July 16, 2010 for its new 12-inch
wafer fab located in the Central Taiwan Science Park, according to Economic
Daily News of Taiwan. Dubbed Fab 15, the new plant is projected to produce
100,000 wafers per month. It is reported that TSMC chairman and CEO Morris
Chang will announced the commencement of construction himself, and it is
expected that more details about the plant will be given by Morris Chang at the
ceremony. Fab 15 is projected to support the 28nm process technology in the
future, but at the initial stage, Fab 15 is expected to produce wafers using 40nm
process technology instead.
