LG Display, Two Taiwanese Companies to Form New JV in China
June 04, 2010
Korean LCD TV (Liquid Crystal Display Television) panel maker LG Display announced on June 4 that the company and two Taiwanese companies will collaborate in the establishment of a new LED (Light Emitting Diode) packaging JV in Wujiang, Jiangsu province, China, in a bid to ensure continued supply of the lighting parts for use in FPD (Flat Panel Display) TV, the Yonhap News reported on June 3. The JV will be capitalized at US$30 million, with LG Display and Taiwanese LCD TV maker AmTran each investing US$6 million for a 20% stake each in JV and Taiwanese LED packager Everlight taking the remaining 60% for US$18 million. The JV is slated to begin production at the end of 2010, with an expected capacity of 100 million LED chips.

Aside from this JV, LG Display and Amtran have another JV in Suzhou, which is located just 40 minutes drive from Wujiang and dedicated to the manufacturing of LCD modules and FPD TVs, Dow Jones reported on June 3. Everlight stated that this new JV will supply chips to LG Display-Amtran JV. LG Display, however, was not immediately available to comment.
