AUO to Buy Toshiba Mobile Display's Singapore Plant

Taiwanese flat-panel display manufacturer AUO
said on March 31 that it will buy out an LTPS LCD (Low-Temperature Polysilicon
Liquid Crystal Display) panel plant in Singapore from Toshiba Mobile Display,
Taiwan's Economic Daily News reported. AFPD, the LTPS LCD plant in Singapore,
is Toshiba's sole overseas LCD panel production facility. AUO said that it has
signed a memorandum of understanding with Toshiba, and the two companies expect
to settle the deal within April and complete the transaction by the end of July.
Japan's Nikkei estimated the value of the deal at around 10 billion Yen (US$106.6
million; US$1=93.8 Yen). AUO is expected to leverage the capacity and
technologies of AFPD to strengthen its presence in the high-end mobile phone
display market.
