Ericsson Secure Separate Orders from China Mobile, China Unicom, and Bharti Airtel

Telecom equipment supplier Ericsson announced on March 29 that the company has entered into separate procurement agreements with China Mobile and China Unicom, the Sohu IT News reported on March 30. The Ericsson-China Mobile deal is valued at US$1 billion, under which Ericsson will provide a radio access network including a multi-standard radio base stations and mobile-switching technology, with an aim to help China Mobile boost its network capacity and evolve it into an IP (Internet Protocol) network. Meanwhile, the Ericsson-China Unicom deal is worth of 800 million, under which Ericsson will provide HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) technology in a bid to support higher network speeds. Ericsson's deliverables for China Unicom include IP routers, GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) fiber access systems, DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing), and IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystems).

 

In the wake of agreements separately signed with two Chinese telecom operators, Ericsson announced on March 31 that the company has entered into a US$1.3 billion deal with Indian telecom operator Bharti Airtel, India's Business Line reported on March 31. Pursuant to the agreement, Ericsson will help Bharti expand and upgrade its GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) networks in 15 circles. In February 2010, Bharti had awarded a US$700 million contract to Nokia Siemens, which will help Bharti expand its GSM networks in the other eight circles. Ericsson's deliverables for Bharti include GSM radio base stations, circuit and packet core, microwave transmission and Intelligent Network, according to the same source.
