BOE to Acquire PC Monitor, TFT-LCD Assets from Jean
March 19, 2010
Chinese TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) maker BOE Technology announced on March 16 that the company will enter into a purchase agreement with Taiwanese display contract maker Jean, in a bid to access the latter's upstream TFT-LCD panel resources, enlarge its contract product sales, and expand the sales of 5G-, 6G-, and 8G plants in overseas markets, Taiwan's Commercial Times reported on March 16. Pursuant to the agreement, BOE will earmark 290 million RMB (US$ 42.6 million; US$1 = 6.8 RMB) to buy PC monitor division, TV business and related assets from Jean, as well as a 100% stake in K-Tronics, Jean's manufacturing site in Suzhou. The transaction is projected to be completed by the third quarter of 2010, according to the same source. Should the acquisition be completed, the company will own nine new PC monitor assembly lines, with an expected production capacity of 5.5 million units per year.
