Lite-On IT Begins Operations at Guangxi Plant

Taiwan-based Lite-On IT, an ODD (Optical Disk Drive) manufacturing unit of Lite-On Technology Corporation, began operations at its second China plant in Beihai, Guangxi Province on January 22, according to a Central News Agency report. Located in the Beihai Export Processing Zone, Lite-ON IT's Beihai facility has a floor space of 87,000 square meters. Currently 18 production lines have moved into operation, with a projected output of 1.9 million units per month. It is expected that the number of production lines will expand to 45 in April 2010, with the maximum monthly output projected to reach five million units and overall shipment value estimated at US$450 million. It is expected that Lite-On IT may also manufacture slim and Blu-ray models at this new facility in the future. Sanyo Electric, which has been providing ODD pick-up heads for Lite-On IT, has also set up a plant adjacent to the Beihai facility, according to the Central News Agency report.
