Chimei Innolux Reportedly Lands LED-backlit LCD TV Order from Samsung
January 08, 2010
Following the approval of the merger of Taiwanese display panel manufacturers Innolux, CMO, and TPO Displays on January 6, the newly merged company Chimei Innolux recently entered into a supply agreement with Samsung, whereby Chimei Innolux will manufacture LED-backlit LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panels for the latter, Taiwan's Economic Daily reported on January 8. Chimei Innolux is expected to account for around 50% of the total LED-backlit LCD TV orders that Samsung plans to release in 2010, with an expected shipment volume of 500,000 units in the first quarter of 2010. Further details regarding the scale of the orders and the date of shipment, however, were not yet disclosed. With a total of 2.6 million LED-backlit LCD TVs being sold in 2009, Samsung recently announced that the company will expand its LED-backlit LCD TV product lines from three models in 2009 to eight in 2010 in a bid to triple its sales volume to 10.0 million units in 2010, according to the same source.
