Taiwan's Innolux Reported to Acquire Toppoly
October 02, 2009
Taiwanese LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel maker Innolux Display is expected to acquire Toppoly, also a Taiwanese LCD panel maker, via share swap, Taiwan's Commercial Times reported on October 2. Both Innolux and Toppoly currently supply small- and medium-size LCD panels to major mobile phone vendor Nokia, which reportedly played an instrumental role in Innolux's acquisition of Toppoly, according to the Commercial Times report. Although both panel makers deal in small- and medium-size panels, Innolux's product portfolio mainly consists of a-Si (Amorphous Silicon) and STN (Super-Twisted Nematic) panels while Toppoly mostly produces LTPS (Low Temperature Poly-Silicon) panels. It is reported that the two companies will reach agreement on share swap ratio and related details next week at the soonest. Innolux, meanwhile, declined to comment on the report.
