Sharp Inaugurates 10G LCD Panel Manufacturing Complex in Sakai, Japan
October 02, 2009
Japan's Sharp inaugurated the world's first 10G LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel manufacturing complex in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, according to a press release by the company on October 1. Covering an area of around 1.27 million square meters, the new manufacturing complex began construction back in November 2007. By means of the company's proprietary UV2A (Ultraviolet-induced multi-domain Vertical Alignment) photo-alignment technology, Sharp is able to manufacture high-contrast, energy-efficient panels measuring 40-inch and larger at the 10G facility. Initial output is estimated at 36,000 substrates per month, with overall production capacity projected to reach 72,000 substrates per month eventually. In addition to the 10G LCD panel production line, the manufacturing complex also houses a solar panel line slated to commence operations in March 2010.
