BOE Breaks Ground on 8G TFT-LCD Plant

Chinese TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) maker BOE Technology has begun construction on a new 8G TFT-LCD manufacturing facility in Beijing, Sina News reported on September 1. The 28.03 billion RMB (US$4.12 billion; US$1=6.8 RMB) joint project was established at the end of August 2009 by BOE, Beijing International Trust, Beijing Yizhuang International Investment, and Beijing Economic-Technological Investment & Development. It is expected that BOE will control a majority stake of 49.63% while Beijing International Trust will acquire a 49.37% stake for 8.5 billion RMB (US$1.25 billion).

Located in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, BOE's new 8G TFT-LCD manufacturing facility is slated for completion in 26 months, with commencement of mass production scheduled for the third quarter of 2011. The new facility is projected with a monthly output of 90,000 glass substrates for use in LCD TVs measuring 26-, 32-, 47-, 52- and 55-inch.
