August 28, 2009
SiPix Imaging, a subsidiary of Taiwanese LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel maker AUO, revealed on August 24 that it plans to build a second EPD (Electrophoretic Display) production line in the company's Taipei County facility, Economic Daily News of Taiwan reported. SiPix's first EPD line began mass production in June 2009 and is projected to reach a monthly capacity of 300,000 units by the year-end. SiPix expects to inject billions of NT dollars (US$1=NT$32.9) into EPD capacity expansion. The company projects that mass production at the second EPD line will begin in the first quarter of 2010, and an overall monthly output of three million six-inch EPDs will be reached by the end of the same year. Starting in August 2009, SiPix began shipments of six- and nine-inch EPDs on a limited scale.
