LG Display to Expand Production Capacity in Paju, Korea

Korean panel maker LG announced on August 12 that the company will expand its production capacity by adding new production lines at its Paju plant, near Seoul, which manufactures small- and medium-size LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panels for use mainly in mobile phones, according to a report by Nikkei dated August 12. The investment is valued at 577.1 billion Won (US$447.2 million; US$1 = 1245.8 Won). New product lines will manufacture LCD panels based on LTPS (Low-Temperature Polysilicon) technology, which are slated for mass production some time between January and March in 2010, with an expected monthly capacity of 20,000 glass substrates measuring 730x920 mm.

Moreover, LG Display stated that the company will also invest 90 billion Won (US$72.2 million) to install equipment at the same site for the production of OEL (Organic Electroluminescence) displays based on 3.5G glass substrates. The new OEL facility is schedule for mass production in the first half of 2010, with an expected monthly capacity of 8,000 substrates by year-end 2010, according to the same report.
