BOE Builds China's National TFT-LCD Technology Engineering Lab

Chinese TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) panel maker BOE Technology commenced construction on China's first national TFT-LCD technology engineering lab on April 21, Chinese-language Sina News reported. The lab is located within BOE's 5G TFT-LCD panel production facility in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area. BOE obtained approval from the NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission) for the establishment of this lab in November 2008. The NDRC has injected approximately 15 million RMB (US$2.20 million; US$1=6.83 RMB) to fund this lab, which is expected to establish four main platforms for the R&D and innovation of LCD technologies, upstream and downstream technology convergence and verification, criterion research, and talent cultivation. The lab is slated for completion in June 2010.
