CNBM (China National Building Material Group) signed on March 30 an investment agreement to build three 0.5mm LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) glass substrate production lines in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, according to a Chinese-language Sina News report. CNBM plans to make an overall investment of 2.7 billion RMB (US$395.59 million; US$1=6.83 RMB) in building the three production lines in the Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, where both BOE and Shenzhen Tianma Microelectronics have set up 4.5G LCD panel manufacturing facilities. Construction on the first line is expected to begin in July 2009, with production slated for commencement 18 months later.
