Taiwanese LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel maker AUO recently made investments through two venture capital subsidiaries in SiPix Imaging, a US maker of electronic paper displays, Taiwan's Economic Daily News reported on March 3. Ronly Venture, an AUO subsidiary, acquired a 21.05% stake in SiPix for US$20 million. Meanwhile, another AUO subsidiary Konly Venture spent US$10 million obtaining a 10.53% stake in SiPix. Overall, AUO controls a 31.58% stake, or 60 million shares, in SiPix through said investments. Previously AUO revealed plans to begin volume production of electronic readers and electronic tags in August 2009. By acquiring a major stake in SiPix, AUO is expected to access SiPix's EPD (Electrophoretic Display) know-how and further advance said goal.
