Taiwanese LCD TV (Liquid Crystal Display Television) maker HannStar plans to extend into the backlight module sector with a reinvestment plan in Chinese G-Bridge Optoelectronics, the Economic Times of Taiwan reported on January 22. The deal is valued at NT$330 million (US$984.6; US$1 = NT$33.5).

Through the investment, HannStar will hold a direct tie with G-Bridge, which is the incumbent backlight module supplier to HannStar. Through the investment, HannStar aims to cut down its manufacturing costs by consolidating production lines for LCD TVs. Further details of the plan, however, were not yet revealed.
