- Japanese Sharp recently announced its forays into manufacturing CMMB (China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting) -enabled mobile TV chips, which can be embedded into TD-SCDMA mobile phones, according to Sina News. With the samples being shipped to its Chinese clients on October 30, the CMMB mobile TV chips are slated for mass production on December 1, 2008, with an monthly capacity of 500,000 units. The chips, to be priced at 20,000 Yen (US$209.2; US$1= 95.6Yen), will be made in Japan and all will be shipped to the Chinese market, according to the same source.

- In the wake of its announcement to purchase about 100 million CMMB terminal in 2009, China's SARFT (State Administration of Radio, Film and Television) further revealed that it will kick off CMMB equipment bidding invitation on December 15, 2008 in Beijing, Sina News reported on November 29, citing Huaxia Time. About half of terminals to be purchased are mobile phones, including GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) phones, GSM Smartphones, CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) phones, CDMA Smartphones, GSM/CDMA dual mode phones, TD-SCDMA phones, and TD-SCDMA Smartphones, according to the same source.
