China Telecom recently has launched a new mobile service under the brand name of Surfing, targeting primarily mid-range to high-end contract users, according to a report by Beijing Daily on October 23. Additionally, China Telecom is expected to release CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) mobile phone numbers starting with 189-prefix in November 2008. At the same time, the company will offer discount packages for its existing PHS users in a bid to encourage them to switch to CDMA, according to the same source.
