Corning Halts Expansion for LCD Glass Substrate Facility in Taichung

US glass maker Corning recently announced its plan to delay the fourth phase of expansion for its Taichung facility - which opened in 2006 and produces LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) glass substrates - until year-end 2010, Commercial Times of Taiwan reported on October 9, adding that the production expansion plan will also be postponed. In addition, the company plans also to perform tank maintenance in the fourth quarter of 2008. Its production lines located at the same premises will likely to suspend production at the start of 2009. According to the same source, Corning also decided to lower its capital spending outlook for 2008-2009 by approximately US$400-600 million.
