Samsung Initiates Pilot Production at New Flat-panel TV Plant in Russia

Samsung has initiated pilot production of flat-panel TVs at a new plant in Kaluga, Russia, EE Times reported on September 8. Located in the Vorsino Industrial Park, Samsung's new TV plant involves an investment of 3.5 billion rubles (US$136.54 million; US$1=25.63 ruble). Volume production is slated to commence in early 2009, with a projected annual capacity of 1.7 million plasma and LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TVs in the initial phase. Full capacity of 2.4 million to 2.8 million units is expected to be reached in 2010.
