- China Mobile has revealed the results of its tender for around 40,000 TD-SCDMA mobile phones supporting China's own-developed CMMB (China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting) mobile TV standard, Sina Tech News reported on July 31, adding that value-line and midrange products priced between 1,000 RMB (US$146.1; US$1=6.8 RMB) and 2,000 RMB (US$292.2) accounted for 60% of the total tender. The four winners of the tender include New Postcom, which was rewarded the largest contract of 24,000 mobile phones, followed by ZTE with 8,000 units, Coolpad with 5,000 units, and Lenovo with 3,000 units.

- Following the release of China Mobile's tender results on July 29, Chinese Lenovo Mobile and Spreadtrum have jointly delivered the first batch of 200 mobile phones, codenamed TD900 - which feature Spreadtrum's TD-SCDMA/CMMB chipset - to China Mobile, Sina News reported on August 1. Lenovo Mobile said that the remaining 2,800 mobile phones will be delivered by August 5.

According to the same source, this batch of devices will be distributed to the volunteers and staff members of the upcoming Beijing Olympics Games. By means of TD900, which supports dual-mode TD-SCDMA/GSM and 3G applications, such as videophone, digital mobile TV, auto-roaming, auto-switching, and high-speed download, users can enjoy up to eight TV programs and several radio programs for free during the sporting event. - Datang Telecom recently signed separate cooperation agreements with Microsoft and Dell, according to a Sohu News report on July 29. Datang and Microsoft will jointly develop TD-SCDMA data card drivers and related value-added applications, as well as applications running on the next-generation Windows operating systems. Under the agreement signed by Datang Telecom and Dell, Dell will adopt Datang Telecom's TD-SCDMA data cards in Dell-branded computers targeting the Chinese market, according to the same source.

- China Mobile has gained approval by China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) to kick off second-round TD-SCDMA network construction, Sohu News reported on July 31, adding that the total investment is estimated at over 30 billion RMB (US$4.4 billion). According to said report, after the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games ends, China Mobile is expected to build TD-SCDMA networks in 28 provincial capitals, excluding the 10 major Chinese cities where TD-SCDMA networks had been built in the first-round network construction project.
