Corning Inaugurates TFT-LCD Glass Substrate Plant in China
April 03, 2008
On March 28, 2008, Corning opened a TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) glass substrate plant at the Beijing Economic Technological Development Area in China, in a bid to tap the surging demand for LCD panels in China, Nikkei Electronics Asia reported.

This new facility, the first of its kind for Corning in China, will engage in the finishing stages of glass substrate production instead of full production process. Panels produced at this facility will be used in products such as flat-panel PC monitors and televisions, Reuters reported.

Corning, however, declined to reveal further details regarding the size of the plant, amount of investment, and projected production capacity, according to the Reuters report. Aside from this Beijing-based plant, Corning currently has other LCD glass substrate plants in the United States, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.
