China's BOE Technology confirmed on March 26 that it has kicked off construction on its 4.5G TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) panel production line in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China's Xinhua News reported.

With a total investment of 3.1 billion RMB (US$441.8 million; US$1=7.0 RMB), BOE's new 4.5G TFT-LCD panel plant is scheduled to enter mass production in mid-2009, with an estimated monthly output of 30,000 glass substrates, according to the Xinhua report. Projected applications include notebook PCs, desktop PCs, digital photo frames, automotive displays, and mobile displays.
