March 14, 2008
Taiwan's Science Park Commission approved on March 10 the investment plan proposed by Toppan Printing, an affiliate of AUO, to build a 5G LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) color filter plant in the Kaohsiung Science Park, Taiwan's Commercial Times reported.

According to the same report, the company will invest NT$3.9 billion (US$126.5 million; US$1=NT$30.8) in this new plant. AUO is reportedly considering buying the 5G color filter plant of the defunct AMTC (Allied Material Technology Corporation), also located in the Kaohsiung Science Park. Should the acquisition be successful, it is estimated that Toppan Printing will gain an additional monthly capacity of 80,000 sheets.
