HP to Expand PDC Scale in Taiwan
February 01, 2008
On January 28, HP announced that the company will double the scale of its PDC (Product Development Center) in Taiwan. Founded in 2002, HP's PDC currently employs 300 Taiwanese employees. HP is planning to expand the number of staff at PDC at a rate of 30 people per month, with the total workforce estimated to reach 600 people by late 2008. The expansion is projected to improve the communications between HP and Taiwanese ODM makers.

HP stated that the decision was based on the advantage of low R&D cost in Taiwan and the fact that Taiwan is a major production base for PCs and handheld products. As part of the expansion, HP will be transferring its desktop PC and server R&D team, which is now based in the United States, to Taiwan. In the future, Taiwan will be the major R&D center for HP in the PC and peripheral product segments.
