January 04, 2008
LPL recently announced the commencement of operations at its LCM (Liquid Crystal Display Module) plant in Guangzhou, China. Covering an area of approximately 33,058 square meters, this is LPL's second LCM plant in China.

Monthly production capacity of LPL's Guangzhou plant is estimated at about 100,000 units, mostly consisting of LCMs for monitors and notebook PCs. Previously, LPL's Chinese LCM production base was in Nanjing. According to a report by The Electronic Times of Korea, LPL's accumulated LCM production volume in China has reached the 100 million mark by year-end 2007. With the inauguration of its Guangzhou plant, LPL is expected to dedicate the Nanjing plant to the production of LCMs for TVs.

In addition, several upstream component suppliers have set up production facilities in Guangzhou along with LPL. Backlight module makers such as L&F and Raygen are numbered among these partners.
