CMO's 6G Plant to Begin Mass Production in 2Q 2008
November 23, 2007
Taiwanese CMO (Chi Mei Optoelectronics) announced on November 22 that it will resume construction on its 6G plant at the Tree Valley Park in Tainan, Taiwan, following the approval granted by Taiwan's Environmental Protection Administration to the development of the industrial park. The new 6G plant is slated to kick off mass production by the second quarter of 2008 instead of year-end 2007 as previously planned, according to a Dow Jones news report.

CMO's latest 6G plant - focusing on the production of 32- and 37-inch TV panels - is expected to operate initially with a capacity of 30,000 units per month. Monthly production capacity is projected to rise to 60,000 units by year-end 2008 and further increase to 90,000 units in the long run.

The company also reaffirmed its plan to construct an 8G plant, according to the same source, citing CMO's Finance Director Dennis Chen. No further details were furnished, though.
